Days of the Week

Some thoughts on how to leverage national days of observance in the coming months.

It seems there is a designated day for everything. By way of example, here are some odd national days of observance happening in the coming weeks and months: National Walk Around Things Day on April 4, National Name Yourself Day on April 9, National Lumpy Rug Day on May 3, and National No Pants Day on May 5, 2023 (and the irony is not lost on me that losing one’s pants coincides with Cinco de Mayo).

While there is a seemingly endless parade of invented days of observance, innovative promotional products distributors can leverage many of them if they use a little strategic foresight and apply a bit of effort. In fact, many suppliers run specials leading up to observance days that align with their product lines. Here are some of the days of observance that can help you grow your sales:

March 30, 2023 – International Pencil Day

This simple instrument has meant so much to our species: it allows people to express themselves, helps them find their creativity, and has made ideas tangible for centuries. Architects, educators, artists, composers, and carpenters make great use of the leaden writing instrument. Shepenco is helping distributors reach those clients with a fabulous deal which you can learn about here.

April 7, 2023 – National Beer Day

Marking the day that the Cullen-Harrison Act came into force, leading to the repeal of Prohibition. Decorated glassware, coasters, or custom bottle openers from EMT are perfect for helping a client celebrate this day. Heck, you can even make it a two-day observance by starting on April 6 – otherwise known as “New Beer’s Eve.”

May 26, 2023 – National Cooler Day

Always celebrated the Friday before Memorial Day, this day is about appreciating this invention. Tying in a promotion for an outdoors company, resort, or any hospitality enterprise is a no-brainer. Let’s face it, coolers from Starline, Hit, or many other suppliers are one of those branded merchandise products that people keep for years, if not forever.

September 20, 2023 – National School Backpack Awareness Day

This day aims to educate everyone on back pain and related illnesses due to improper use of the ubiquitous rucksack. This day presents a real opportunity in the summer months (when student backpacks are ordered for the coming school year) to work with local school systems to ensure they provide high-quality backpacks such as those from Origaudio.

October 1, 2023 – International Coffee Day

Let’s face it, just about everyone loves coffee, so there had to be a day to celebrate the mighty arabica bean. Why not suggest that clients celebrate with custom coffee from Logojojo or a Bodum French Press set from Hirsch? Of course, you could go a more traditional route with coffee mugs from ETS or Thermos-branded drinkware from SnugZ. Honestly, the possibilities are endless.

As I’m sure you guessed, I could go on and on (and on). The point here is that all of these “days” provide an opportunity for distributors to have a conversation with targeted clients. Frankly, any chance to have meaningful contact with a client to help them promote their business is a reason to celebrate.

Speaking of celebrating, I hope you’ll join me on May 29, 2023, for National Put a Pillow on Your Fridge Day. I’ve already selected a nice little throw pillow and can’t wait to lovingly place it on top of my Whirlpool!
