The Business Needs a Break From You

Why disconnecting this week is the most productive move you can make.

As I write this, it’s right in the middle of that strange, quiet pocket of the calendar where time has little meaning and calories from cheese don’t count: the week between Christmas and New Year’s.

Some use this week to plan, set goals, or map out their “best year yet.” As for me, I’m intentionally doing the opposite by fully disconnecting. It’s not because I’m lazy, but because both I and brandivate need a break from each other.

As professionals, we talk a lot about the need to recharge ourselves, but we rarely acknowledge that our businesses sometimes need space from our constant tweaking, tinkering, meddling, and “just one more thing.” In my experience, stepping away creates not only perspective but also clarity, leading to better decisions.

That’s also why this blog is short, because I’m fully practicing what I’m preaching.

As John Lennon once said, Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted,” and I plan to enjoy every moment of this week.

Here’s my challenge to you: pick one day this week and fully unplug on purpose: no emails, no catching up, no planning for the new year, and, most importantly, no guilt. Let your business miss you so that you can come back better.

2026 will thank you.
