It's difficult to believe this is the 200th brandivate blog post, and yet it is. In just short of two years, what began as a simple way to write down my thoughts has blossomed into a semi-weekly content machine that is read by over 1,000 people. To say I'm humbled by the reach and response would be an understatement. As I look back to when I began this blog, I never thought it would develop into what it has become and it validates my belief that starting this blog was the single best business decision I've ever made. The fruits of my labor which I enjoy today were only made possible because I started the blog two years ago.
Let me provide an analogy with a little inspiration from Seth Godin: I’ve always wanted a lemon tree in my back yard as I love the thought of having access to fresh citrus at any given time. The problem is, I never planted a lemon tree and if I want fruit today the best time to plant one was five years ago. The second best time is right now.
The same holds true for the content marketing efforts of a company. If you want more engagement, more followers, and, ultimately, more clients the best time to start your content marketing was two years ago. The second best time is right now.
No more talking about it, no more wishing you started two years ago, and no more wasting time hoping someone else will do it for you. Your audience – your clients – crave content marketing: relevant blogs, engaging videos, and entertaining podcasts to name a few. The good news is that you don’t have to create the content to share it. The better news is that there are virtually limitless sources for content in our industry.
