Every business owner, salesperson, and employee encounters business challenges on a daily basis. Some are relatively insignificant while others feel monumental. To overcome an obstacle, most will evaluate the situation, review the potential choices, and make a decision. While this is a very logical approach, it won’t increase the odds that the solution will hit the target because the potential consequences haven’t been assessed.
During adolescence, we learn that choices lead to decisions and decisions, in turn, create consequences – desired, unwanted, and unintended. In the rush to be decisive, many don’t take the necessary time to consider how a decision will impact other people or aspects of the business.
Because of this, it’s critical to consider all aspects of a decision BEFORE it’s made. By not factoring in potential repercussions of a decision and how will impact all areas of the business, you dramatically increase the odds that there will be unintended consequences that will need to be addressed.
Balance being decisive by looking at the entire picture before implementation.
