There are some studies that show only 3% of people have goals written down. When you combine that with another study that says you are 80% more likely to achieve a goal if you write it down, it becomes a number you should consider. It’s a simple activity that will move you in the direction of your dreams, yet most people don’t do it.
It’s simple and it’s up to you.
But let’s say you are one of the 3%. You have written down your goals. You have spent the time. Now that your goals are on paper, how can you impact your likelihood of achieving them? You might be thinking, “Ok, now what?”
Now you need to focus on the LEAD indicator that will help you achieve your goals.
What do I mean? Simple.
You need to focus your efforts on the activities that YOU can do, with no help from the outside world, to move you toward the goals. For example, if you want to grow your sales, you need to write more and/or larger orders, right? Sure. But you can’t control whether someone orders. You can’t MAKE your customers order more. If we could, we would all just do that!
Your LEAD indicators are things that you can control and will predict (over time) success toward the goal. You can control how many prospect calls you make. You control how many mailings you do. You control the amount of creative samples you send out. You control the pro-active sales activities. And, as you know, if you continually do those activities, it will lead to sales. Those are your LEAD indicators.
Now that you have written down your goals (you have written them down right?), spend a little more time creating your list of LEAD activities that will drive you toward success. By doing so, you will end each day knowing that you have not just been busy…you have been productive.
