What are the activities you do every day when you are open for business? If you’re like most people, you find yourself spending quite a bit of time:
Navigating social media
Following up on orders
Chatting with coworkers
Invoicing and billing
Working with cross functional partners (suppliers, logistics companies, etc.)
Attending internal meetings
Dealing with unforeseen issues
All of these are very real and certainly keep you busy. However, if you are wanting to increase sales and grow your business, the above are not the activities that will lead you to the pot of sales gold at the end of the client rainbow.
The ONLY time you are really open for business is when you are engaged with your clients and prospects. That's it. Spending time on any other activity means you are closed for business. When you look at it from that perspective, most are only open for an hour or two each day – not nearly enough to experience sales growth.
By minimizing the busy work and shifting time to activities that keep you in front of people who make buying decisions, you will be open for business far longer and find your sales growth goals much more realistic to attain.
So, how many hours a day are you really open for business?
