This is the 100th post on the brandivate blog – a milestone I want to recognize and, perhaps, even celebrate. The initial idea behind the blog was simple: I’ve always enjoyed writing and I hoped to use it as a vehicle to share my sales, marketing, and business thoughts with promotional products professionals. Candidly, I assumed the blog would be met with a collective yawn. I mean, who wants to read a blog focused on the world of branded merchandise? As it turns out, a lot more than I anticipated.
Launched a little less than a year ago, it was initially only read by a few industry friends polite enough to humor me. Today the regular readership has exploded to about 500 per post and reaches thousands more through a variety of social media platforms. What started out as little more than an outlet for my personal thoughts has transformed my professional career and enhanced my personal relationships in ways I never could have imagined. Writing this blog and sharing it is one of the best decisions I've ever made.
When a significant milestone is hit – such as 100 blog posts – it is a great opportunity to reflect on the past as well as the journey ahead. As I look back on the growth of the blog, I know the key ingredient hasn’t been great content. I realize that some posts are good, some are really good, some are derivative, and some flat out stink. The real key has been consistency. At the outset, I made a commitment to myself that I would share a new blog post every Monday and Thursday without fail. To do this, I had to make peace with the fact that I might post weak blogs from time to time. While the perfectionist in me still struggles with that, I believe the consistency has been worth the occasional sacrifice in quality.
Whether this is the 1st or 100th time you are reading this blog, thank you. Thank you for the readership, the encouragement, and the engagement. Moving forward, the goal is to continue to publish a blog that is meaningful, impactful, educational, thought-provoking, and perhaps even entertaining from time to time.
I’m often asked which blog posts are my favorites, and I will share a few that I really like below. However, I thought it would be more interesting to ask some regular readers which ones moved them and why. Here is that list:
The Enemy Within – “This one hit home with me. How many people get in their own way? I do more than I care to admit!”
Prospecting the Costanza Way – “This one reminded me how to remain relevant and not fall in the trap of doing what my competition is doing.”
Lunch Pail and Hard Hat – “I love the personal anecdote and how you applied it to a lesson we all need to remember. It’s always going to take a lot of work – and that’s okay. There really are no shortcuts.”
The Middle Seat - "Creating an experience for clients is what will allow anyone to stand out."
Finding Your Voice Series – “Simply fantastic. Through the entire series you guided the reader to not only understand what it means to stand out in our industry, but how to actually do it. Bravo!”
As for me, my favorites tend to be where I share personal experiences and stories. Whether it’s my affinity for a peculiar sandwich or the entire saga of my Achilles tear at PPAI Expo in 2015, I believe sharing me – the real me – is what makes the blog relatable and real. My favorite blogs are:.
